About Us

Here at The Banyan Tree Yoga we have created the perfect place for relaxation, meditation and yoga. After gaining many years of experience working in various respectable yoga retreats across Goa, it was time to make our vision of an friendly yoga come to life. During the monsoon season in 2013 we crafted, constructed and built with our own hands and hearts. This comprises of ten eco friendly huts made from local sustainable materials each with an en suite toilet and shower under the sky. Our shaded yoga shala offers a peaceful place to relax, recharge and feel rejuvenated after a yoga or meditation session. We have a beautiful garden which we tend to each day with many blossoming flowers and vegetable patches where we grow local vegetables to make our cooking even fresher. There is also a bonfire area for relaxation in the evenings with live music, surrounded by the cashew trees. If you require any assistance our reception is open 24/7 and we are happy to help.
All of our meals served are home-made and produced either from our very own vegetable patches or from local farmers. We serve a variety of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and spices to suite your palate.
We like to welcome our guests as a part of our family and make your stay as peaceful and delightful as possible so please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your stay more pleasant.
You can find our details in the Contact Us section of this website.

Massage

We offer massage sessions which are a unique combination of different massage techniques and energy healing, suited for your personal needs.
Aleksandra, our masseuse, has studied a deeply healing and artful Thai yoga massage with the Sunshine Network teachers, in North Thailand.
She has also learnt techniques in India such as rebalancing, deep tissue and liquid touch created by Tapesh Paradiso. Aleksandra is a Reiki practitioner certified by London College of Spirituality, and uses energy balancing in her massage sessions.
She believes that touch is a form of art and is transformational not only for the body but also for the soul
Huts

Our huts are made from local sustainable materials.
The clay and grass from which the roof is constructed, comes from our back garden and the walls are made from bamboo and nilgiri wood, which brings a beautiful play of light into the living space.
Each hut has its own private veranda, double bed and bamboo rack to hang your clothes.
Our an-suite, eco friendly bathrooms consist of a composting toilet and a shower under the sky.
Daily room service is provided and twice weekly linen changes.
Yoga

Jo has been practicing Yoga for 22 years, starting with a 10 day Vipassana meditation in 1996 in Nepal , followed by a devoted Ashtanga Vinyassa practice which led to her first teacher training with Pattabhi Jois's nephew Vishwanath in 2003 a wonderful full time 3 month intensive in Bangalore India.
She then had the great fortune to do the last full time 9 month teacher training with Louisa Sear's Yoga Arts in Byron Bay Australia . She then started teaching Yoga professionally in 2005 .During the 9 month teacher training she met her teacher Clive Sheridan who's experience and knowledge of Yoga is truely outstanding , teaching his unique blend of Hatha Yoga , Advaita Vedanta and Tantra.
Jo has also been very lucky to be Clives assistant on a couple of his retreats. Also on the 9 month teacher training she met her Iyengar teacher's Glen and Margaret Ceresoli who she has spent the last 7 years training with and she is now a Certified Iyengar teacher.

This place was so amazing! Built from the ground up in just 5 months, this little eco village has everything you need. The finishing touches on everything are superb - beautiful huts traditionally crafted with natural materials, the bathrooms have the most amazingly clean eco toilets (I may actually have converted from my previous opinion of these).
The sinks are kind of a natural modern and the huts have actual showers.
The main room of the hut has a lovely peaked ceiling constructed of bamboo and thatch. Mosquito nets hang over the bed and each hut has its own front porch. have I mentioned the food yet? The best food I have had in India.
Simple and delicious - Annu and his staff have a garden that most of the vegetables come from, and have worked out techniques to ensure that the western stomach can eat raw produce in India.
Arugula with pomegranate salad was my favorite! The staff felt like family and went way beyond expectations to make us comfortable. They were able to rent motorbikes for us and called cars and doctors when needed.
The location is perfect - about 5 minutes by motorbike from the beach, but just far enough away that is was deliciously quite at night - a real luxury in the chaos of Goa.
This place is an absolute gem and incredible value - extremely affordable! Thank you Annu and all of your staff!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Banyon Tree Yoga spot. It is in the perfect location away from all the noise but close enough to walk to the beach.
The huts are made with so much love and feel so romantic. The employees do everything to make your stay comfortable and are very friendly people who really love being there... And the food was amazing!!!

Ah. What a haven of calm. Banyan Tree is probably the quietest place I have stayed in all of India where you can hear the wind and the birds and still be within walking distance of the beach.
The hosts are wonderful and will go out of their way to make your stay special. Food is delicious and very reasonably priced - yum salads. If there is not class going on, the yoga shala is free to use so no excuse not to practice.
The Banyan Tree is the vision of two young guys trying to do something special and it shows. The huts are beautifully constructed, mandala style, complete with eco toilets. When I arrived there was already incense burning in my room - just one of the small touches that speaks to the charmed experience of staying here.
Can I come back?

I 100% recommend these slot games!! Really! I have spent a lot of time over the years in Goa and to start with, the location of this place for North Goa is perfect!... It is tucked away in the nature,
8 minutes or so inland from the coast of Ashvem which is an ideal place to stay in as its good to head North to Arambol or if you want to head anywhere south of the North. Next there is the place....
very spacious and Idyllic type Yurt style rooms, tastefully decorated with en suite outdoor bathrooms attached to them. Incredibly atmospheric with the dappled morning light filtering in through the rattan style walls of the structure in the Mornings.
The staff, Annu and Chinu also make this place special,, very genuine, knowledgeable and kind people that will make you feel very welcome!
Lastly there is the food which you can have brought to your room or eat in the outdoor dining structure at the bottom of the hill. Very tasty food made with Love and reasonably priced!! Overall, I can sincerely say this place really is a Secret little gem of North Goa!!!!!!
